Rob Steinberg Presents Beethoven's Emperor Concerto

May, 2000

On Friday, May 19th, at 8:00 p.m., Rob Steinberg will be performing Beethoven's Emperor Concerto and the Bach F Minor Concerto, accompanied by Paul Jones, at the Chapel on the MUM campus.

Rob commented: "I am looking forward to performing these two great piano concertos with Paul before a Fairfield audience. When I heard Paul play the Rachmanioff concerto last year in the Chapel, I decided that I wanted to relearn some concertos for a Fairfield concert. There is no audience more enthusiastic or appreciative than those in Fairfield, and the quality of an audience makes a huge difference in the quality of the experience for the musician. This should be an enjoyable evening for everyone."

Rob works at ArtSelect, Inc. as its General Counsel, and was Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of Telegroup. However, Rob's first career direction was as a classical pianist. While in college, he was invited to attend a master class with concert pianist Andre Watts. Watts recommended that Rob pursue a career as a concert pianist and Rob thus accelerated his college studies and then went to Paris to study piano.

Coincidently, Rob studied in Paris with the same teacher Paul Jones had studied with 5 years earlier. After returning from Paris, Rob was admitted into the piano performance program at the Peabody Institute and was to study with Leon Fleischer. Paul Jones also was one of Leon Fleischer's students, as was Andre Watts. For reasons to complex to explain in a short article, Rob decided to go to law school instead.

Rob has performed as soloist with symphony orchestras. His last performance of the Emperor Concerto was in May 1975 on the Washington University campus with members of the St. Louis Symphony.

After becoming an attorney, Rob continued to appear in piano performances. Rob gave a recital in honor of U.S. Attorney General William French Smith, his former boss, which was attended by many high level Reagan Administration officials. Rob also founded, along with Joseph DiGenova, former U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, a performance group whose members included Senators, a Supreme Court Justice, and other well known leaders in Washington.

Tickets for the concert can be obtained at Somebody Cares or at the door. All proceeds from the concert, after expenses are paid, will be donated to MSAE.
